Simon Bowles Mini Biography

• Simon Bowles came to the Film Industry after graduating from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. His break into the industry was as Standby Art Director on Vadim Jean's 1993 horror feature Beyond Bedlam starring Liz Hurley setting the scene for his specialism in the horror genre. He gained valuable experience with established Production Designers on films such as Tomb Raider, Buffalo Girls, Talos the Mummy, Fortress 2 and Wing Commander. Bowles was then nominated at the British Independent Film Awards for Most Promising Newcomer for his first role as Production Designer on Simon Hunter's British Horror feature Lighthouse (2000). He then designed The Enemy (2001) starring Roger Moore and Tom Conte. His first collaboration with British Writer/Director Neil Marshall was designing the cult werewolf horror Dog Soldiers (2002), which won the Golden Raven at the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film and the Best DVD Release at Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films in the USA. Bowles continued to work with Marshall designing the underground maze of caves for box office hit The Descent, which won accolades at the Evening Standard Film Awards, Empire Awards, British Independent Film Awards and Philadelphia Film Festival. Marshall's most recent project, futuristic action movie Doomsday, has been Bowles' most exciting challenge to date, conceptualizing and creating the vision of London set 30 years in the future contrasting with a technologically regressed Scotland. Bowles is currently designing The Descent 2 at Ealing Studios which reunites the creative team who provided the scary subterranean style of the first film.
